   Canadian composer, Larry Nickel, has merged the words from the well-loved hymn, "For the Beauty of the Earth," with a Navajo prayer. His melodies move beautifully and seamlessly, but what makes the music rise above the ordinary is the flowing voice part writing. This is a lovely anthem of praise.

   Ron Kean's multicultural series brought us a host of wonderful writers. Manny Cepeda is a fabulous composer as is evidenced by this love song, written in his Puerto Rican native tongue: Spanish. His beautiful melody captures the spirit of the culture and is supported by rhythmic motifs in the vocal parts. A percussion and string bass part are available separately. High school choirs and older will enjoy this piece.

   The compositions of Eric Barnum have established his reputation for superb craftsmanship. Using the poetry of John Charles Earle, Barnum creates a mood of optimism and assurance mixed with mystery and gratitude. The anthem opens with solo voices in a quazi-recitative style (Barnum offers an option to begin the piece following the solos) and proceeds to unfold into an anthem of artistry and beauty. Although the text is sacred, the piece would work in services of worship or concert halls.

   Once you begin hearing this piece you are drawn in...you want to sing it. The "eagle's wings" text is one of the most frequently set to music, and yet this one sounds like it has always been there, just not revealed until now. The essence of "wait" is captured in the opening section, which gives way to a new tempo, building with the "mounting on wings." The true soaring takes place with a 12/8 meter, the voices building in triumph. A final return to the "waiting" theme provides an assurance that has permeated the entire composition. Excellent for church and school.
