It is most appropriate that Keith Loftis has written music to Christina Rossetti’s poem about spring. A few years ago he composed ”Autumn Gives Her Hand to Winter,” which remains a popular piece for 2-part children’s chorus. ”The First Day of Spring” was commissioned for the 20th Anniversary of the Tacoma Youth Chorus, Judith Herrington and Connie Schmidt, Directors. The flowing vocal lines, interesting harmonies and embellishing flute make this a wonderful selection for 2-part children’s choirs.
