Ken Berg
Ken Berg graduated from Samford University with a BME and an MME in 1977 & 1981 respectively. Ken and Susan were married in the summer of 1977. They are the proud parents of Michael and David, both fine musicians in their own right. From 1977 - 2005, Ken served as Choral Director and Fine Arts Chairman at John Carroll Catholic High School. In 1978, Ken and Susan took over as Music Directors of the Birmingham Boys Choir. Susan directs the Junior Choristers and Ken accompanies her. Ken directs the Senior Choristers and Susan accompanies him. Wonderfully convenient for both! The Birmingham Boys Choir has toured extensively through western Europe and most of North America (www.birminghamboyschoir.com).
Currently, Ken is the "Music Minister and Resident Composer" at Mountain Brook Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Susan is the Music Associate, church pianist and Children’s Choir Co-Ordinator. Again, wonderfully convenient and helpful for both! In addition to being a clinician and adjudicator, Ken is also serving currently as an officer in the Alabama ACDA. His enjoys yard work and music writing. (He is learning to enjoy ballroom dancing with Susan!)
CHACONNE (Solfege Suite #2) (Pavane Publishing)
Composer: Ken Berg
Voicing: 2-PT
Released: January 2009
Difficulty: Easy
Listen
It is safe to say that P1307 GALOP from Solfege Suite #1 is currently the number one best selling composition in the Pavane catalog. The other two from suite #1 (P1305 MARCH and P1306 BOLERO) have done well also. Therefore, it is with pride and anticipation we introduce Solfege Suite #2. These pieces have been so successful because while they teach solfege, form and other musical elements, they also stand as performance pieces. Each title describes the form employed and the character of the piece. Bravo to conductor, composer and educator, Ken Berg. For young voices.

BLESSED IS HE (Pavane Publishing)
Composer: Gerald Lindberg
Author/Lyricist: Scriptures
Voicing: SATB
Season: Palm Sunday
Released: September 1999
Difficulty: Easy
Listen
San Francisco organist and arranger Jerry Lindberg has produced a brilliant and energetic piece for Palm Sunday. The accompaniment is set more for piano than organ, but either could work. The rhythm and drive of the piece is what captures the spirit. The vocal parts roll off the tongue with ease. This is a great anthem for all church styles.
BOLERO (from Solfege Suite #1) (Pavane Publishing)
Composer: Ken Berg
Voicing: UNISON or 2-PART
Season: General
Released: January 2007
Listen
The first ""Solfege Suite"" consists of three pieces of contrasting styles: ""Bolero,"" (P1306) ""Galop,"" (P1307) and ""March,"" (P1305). The names give away the character, but the truly fabulous part is that the text is all solfege. Singers learn about musical names, intervals and solfege, while singing programmable music. Written for the 2006 Alabama ACDA ""Young Voices Boys Choir,"" directors have been begging for the music's release since its premiere. Bravo to composer/teacher Ken Berg!
