Kyle Haugen

Kyle Haugen’s published choral music has been performed and recorded by high school, college, and community choirs across the United States, and featured in an annual public television special broadcast annually nationwide. Mr. Haugen directs the Young Men’s Choir and co-directs the mixed Chorale for Tacoma Youth Chorus, and he is the assistant director of Northwest Repertory Singers, a semi-professional community choir.
He holds the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the University of Puget Sound and the Master of Sacred Music degree from Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minn., in conjunction with St. Olaf College.

A versatile musician, Mr. Haugen’s professional music experience spans Baroque organ to musical theater. He has held church music positions in the Tacoma area; in St. Louis Park, Minn.; and in Boston, Mass., where, as a member of a professional choir, he was the tenor soloist for the premiere of Daniel Pinkham’s Missa Brevis.

With a reputation for an engaging and energetic style, Mr. Haugen is increasingly recognized for his work with the changing male voice and for fostering “mountaintop” artistic experiences with young singers.

Kyle Haugen has done a terrific job of making Benedetto Marcello's Baroque piece work for any combination of voices. Perhaps the most enjoyable thing about this piece is the keyboard's running bass line, which eventually appears in the voice parts. The anthem has a powerful drive that is energizing and contagious. Great for church or concert and appropriate for all ages.
