   Respected English scholar Peter Aston has created the definitive edition for the Christmas Cantata (BWV 142) long attributed to J.S. Bach.    Commissioned for the 50th Anniversary of the Los Cancioneros Chorale in Los Angeles, this 8 minute work combines classical themes with a syncopated rhythm. The opening and closing sections are fast and driving, while the middle sections are more serene. Based on Psalm 100 (Make a Joyful Noise), the work is fitting for concert or church use. Although perform able with organ or piano, the original orchestration includes strings, harp and percussion.

   Although the words come from Ecclesiastes, the message and music will fit any school program. Reminding youth to be wise through their maturing years, this choral breaks into a delightful "na-na-na" section that carries a madrigal quality. We're betting this piece will be performed more in school programs than in church worship services - the bet is on.

   Corelli composed some of the most beautiful music of the Baroque era. Veteran arranger, Walter Ehret has adapted one of those melodies to a text from Psalm 71 in a style befitting the times. The result is an excellent new work for church or school.

   Ise Oluwa inaugurates the Ron Kean Multicultural Series in association with Pavane Publishing. It is a praise song from the Yoruba people of Nigeria, West Africa, based on the arrangement made popular by the African- American vocal group, Sweet Honey in the Rock. Dr. Kean is the ACDA Chair for Multicultural music and a recognized pioneer in the field. It has already become a popular festival piece for Junior High through Adult voices. The sacred text "God's work will never be destroyed" makes it an excellent choice for church as well.

   First made popular by the singing group, "Sweet Honey in the Rock," Ron Kean penned an SATB setting to launch his multi cultural series a few years back. The response to the tune and the series has been overwhelming. This new voicing for 2 or 3 parts opens the door to the smaller and younger choir market. The accompaniment uses various Nigerian percussion instruments with great effect.

   From Handel's "Occasional Oratorio" comes this stately classical anthem. Walter Ehret's skill for finding these gems and tightening them up is legendary. A great anthem of power and praise, it works equally well in concert or church.

He first arranged Handel's "Joy to the World" for 2 part voices, and now comes the SATB setting. Delightful energy, interesting rhythm and percussion make this a very fun selection for church or school.
